Google vs DuckDuckGo | Search engine manipulation, censorship and why you should switch

Ultimate comparison between DuckDuckGo and Google is here listing all the reasons why you should switch from Google Search to DuckDuckGo. If you like to protect yourself on the web and want to support my channel, sign up for NordVPN at or use my coupon code 'thehatedone' at the checkout to save 66%! Switch to DuckDuckGo Also install DuckDuckGo on your phone and web browser too! Because search engines are second gate-keepers to the internet, it's absolutely crucial to choose the one that will respect your privacy and provide uncensored and unfiltered search results. Google's search neutrality has been compromised. Google notoriously develops more and more of its own tools that it then puts in front of organic search results. DuckDuckGo's business model is the greatest advantage over Google Search. DuckDuckGo doesn’t have a filter bubble. Its search results are derived from over 400 sources, that include big search engines like Bing or Yahoo, but also DuckDuckGo’s own web crawlers. Its organic results aren’t intervened by personalized filters, because DuckDuckGo doesn’t maintain a personal profile on you like Google does. duckduckgo is a quack. they gave there crypto keys to the NSA a loooong time ago.
Darth Nemesis 10 days ago
What people need to understand is that there is more to search today than just mere keywords indexing. It makes total sense to me that NASA site would come up top in a search climate change hoax over something that might be a poorly designed/built conspiracy theory site. It is by design and it is what I expect as a user. There are 100's of parameters that go into google's page ranking today. Even factors like the response times of your servers, your site performance or mobile friendliness effect the ranking. When I search for a product, I always get the e-com links of reputed sites over ones that are shady even if the they list a lower price. It is what I expect and I see it as a feature that makes me use Google. In contrast, DuckDuckGo doesn't even show the expected results half the time.

If Google tracks every single data about me and sell it to ads, or government, or anyone for making profits from me, I will NOT ALLOW that! But then, I can’t do much, every single service that’s not related to Google, has SOME part of it in the service.
Katrina Payne 15 hours ago
Oh. on that climate change is a hoax thing. I've gotten Climate Change is a Hoax as results while searching for Captain Planet character information on DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo manipulates its search based upon its political leanings build into the engine--as oppose to Google doing it by psychological manipulation. Accurate Search Results is a Do What I Mean function. and search engines that operate on Organic Search Results do not return results like how DuckDuckGo returns results. The internet is not that clean system.
Katrina Payne 16 hours ago
I stopped using DuckDuckGo in 2016 when whenever I was searching for something I'd get Alt-Right related content. Including one time where I was looking for a picture of a cartoon character. Upon thinking about it, I started asking, what determines 'accurate search results'? --and then I realised, accurate search engine is an example of a Do What I Mean function. With how many websites exist on the internet to search through, it is impossible to do a proper search engine without having a specific programming language to query--which is not something anybody will ever use and do. But. in order to have any form of effective Search Engine Results that mean anything. you will need to put some form of bias into which results you choose. Duck Duck Go does have its own political leanings. It just does not operate on a Filter Bubble Echo Chamber. it just has its own bias right on its shoulder. Yes. I heard you explain organic search results --and if you were to actually implement that description. it would not look like DuckDuckGo or any actually search engine.

I actually switched to DuckDuckGo when I read who google can track my location on there policy, even if you switch gps off they can track you passed on your last use of google map and your phone compass to see which direction are you heading and the speed not to mention tracking your internet to know which town/city are you in.

Use Firefox browser and set the search engine to DuckDuckGo on that as default - that is easy to do, and Google can't spy and collect data on you based on the Chrome Browser and the data sent to google on the sites you browse. With Firefox browser it is possible to use google search whenever you want to by typing @google ahead of the query. You get the best of all worlds that way.

So many forums went to facebook, but if DuckDuckGo had a forum discussion board for users to create, that would be glorious.

A fucking annoying thing about Google is that whenever you want to find the most useful content you get a product to buy instead. Even here on YouTube suggestions are crap, videos which sell product get on top of my suggestions everytime, with related advertising of products and links. I'm constantly removing those suggestion yet YouTube doesn't want to understand that I prefer good content which are in line with my preferences over things to buy. YouTube is the single most stupid AI humans have ever built. It's broke in its very purpose. Google is a valuable search engine when it comes to searching and buying products. For anything else is garbage.
Chris Enitan 4 days ago
In the beginning there was Google: Come search with us, we are open source. Yaay! Then there was Duck Duck Go: Come search with us, we don't track you. Yaay! That's the funny thing. DDG is selling its inferior technology hiding behind the fact that its private. I see a lot of tech firms doing this, build something small with few service, identify that it has fewer abilities to the already established services, then market it for that same reason disguised as a deliberate set up, then in the end grow to become the same thing you discredited. At the end of the day, all I see is two search engines trying to own 90% of search.

So true. I think part of why google got so popular was the phrase google it. It literally defined searching on the internet. duckduckgo it or search it on DDG doesn't have the same ring to it. At this point, people I know don't ever say look it up or search it online , just google it DDG could have that it if was Duck.go/'Duck Dot Go' maybe

Am I the only one that thinks this shit is suspicious? All of a sudden I see DuckDuckGo vs Google in multiple articles and videos suggested from all over the place, and they're all virtually identical. Not one of them has a single solitary negative thing to say about it - I have a hard time believing that all these different people all loved it so much that they couldn't find a single thing that they thought could be improved. Seriously, not even one person didn't like the UI or something? That is just wildly implausible to me. Every single article and video I have seen almost seem like someone from the marketing department at DuckDuckGo wrote the script. I wouldn't be surprised if these are all in fact ads, and that is why they're suddenly all over the place. I'm thinking it's more likely Google are so NOT worried about DuckDuckGo as a competitor that they're just allowing them to waste money advertising on their platforms knowing they can't last very long and are doomed to fail, and that is why people are getting this video in their recommended out of nowhere at all.
The Hated One 5 days ago
+StreakyBaconMan My position usually is to be suspicious and wrong rather than have your trust exploited. I guess that's the lesson I took from life. Independent journalism is basically dead. All major outlets are funded by big corporations. It's a curse of the old media. Almost everything written online is an agenda. It's hard to find something that's free from corporate influence or geopolitical games. So I believe it's always good to be skeptical and have good critical thinking so that you are able to evaluate structure of arguments. I do try my best to present my arguments as honestly as possible but I could be wrong and when I am, I need to be put in check by other people's critical approach. I believe in academia and that's what I want to do when I make videos like this one.
StreakyBaconMan 5 days ago
+The Hated One I'd dare say that is the reason I keep seeing the DuckDuckGo stuff, certainly makes more sense than my idea did anyway. I also have a huge problem with that type of content on being presented as news, and usually I don't judge the people who pay to have those types of ads, and more the people who put them out as if it was news but in this case it seems a tad hypocritical - isn't one of their big selling points that their platform is super transparent? Doesn't seem right they'd use such an nontransparent way to advertise the product. I feel pretty stupid for leaving that first comment now though, if I had bothered to look at your channel for even a few seconds I could see that this video was not at all out of place on your channel like the usual bit of sponsored content is. Hopefully I'm the only one who reacts to the video this way, because I can't really blame it on the video at all, you can't really be expected to inform everybody that this video is not sponsored content at all. Maybe you could stick it in the description that you are not affiliated with DuckDuckGo if you are worried that others may make the same mistake I did. Oh and if you're curious I did know you can't make sponsored content without saying so on YouTube, but I assumed that the penalty was insignificant simply because I've seen people on YouTube get away with heinous stuff and still manage to keep their channels. I kind of assumed that some people would do it anyway because the punishment is worth committing the crime. It's actually good to hear that you are legitimately scared your channel would be taken down if you did that. Sadly I think at least some of the articles I read were in fact sponsored content - they certainly have all the hallmarks of it. It'd be great if I found out that in fact it's all people ganging up on google - these days you need a gang to take a swipe at google they are so huge now. Even if they're doing it for the wrong reasons which in the case of the mainstream media ganging up on google they almost certainly are, if it leads to some change in transparency and security it'd be worth it, so long as there isn't another adpocalypse along with it. If the media companies want to push their readers to use a certain service over another, and are providing legitimate reasons for people to do so then I don't see a problem with it. The only problem I have is when dishonesty comes into play, like it most certainly did during adpocalypse, and like it would be if this is sponsored content.
The Hated One 6 days ago
+StreakyBaconMan Thank you for pointing this all out to me. I appreciate it.
The Hated One 6 days ago
+StreakyBaconMan Many articles about DuckDuckGo were coming around 2014 after Snowden's NSA revelations and the following blow back at Silicon Valley (including Google) for willingly collaborating with the government intelligence. The one article from Forbes is October 3 2018, which is 10 days before my video was uploaded. It is possible that DuckDuckGo paid some companies to write reviews on them. Companies do this although I disagree with this practice. Journalism should be clearly separated from promo articles. It is also a commonpractice for news outlets to basically copy-paste articles across their network to spread it to a wider audience. This is also very common and something I strongly disagree with but it's a result of the death of independent journalism. Mainstream media that are paid by advertising networks directly competing with Google/Facebook/Amazon are usually all too happy sharing articles that portray Google in a negative light. If you investigate who owns outlets that were basically behind the Youtube adpocalypse, you'll see that they are owned by the same advertising network or affiliated with it. So that might explain why you might have experienced articles about DDG that all sounded the same. (I am not defending DDG here, just laying out a possibility). I am not very proud of how my video turned out to be and I wanted to actually spend more time comparing Google and DDG search results. Which is why I made a second video on this topic: But concealing affiliations is heavily against YouTube's terms of service and I could get my channel entirely deleted or even face legal penalties if I promoted something but didn't disclose the relationship. I kind of relied on this fact to be well known and that people would understand this is not an ad for DDG, which is why I was confident in making this video so heavily critical of Google and positive of DDG. I didn't intend to create a balanced review of the two, but rather a critical comparison of their different search engine approaches.

+The Hated One To be honest I didn't watch the full video, part way through I started thinking about how I came across all this DuckDuckGo stuff and got suspicious, I paused the video and started typing my thoughts, which I regret doing now - it's hardly fair of me to leave this comment on your video when I didn't even watch all of it. For all I know it could be different to all the articles and videos I've seen previously so I apologize for that, and I will watch the video after I post this comment. After reading your response to my comment I believe you completely, that you have nothing to do with DuckDuckGo at all - I tend to think that my comment would have been ignored or deleted if you did. That being said, now that I've triggered the suspicion in myself, I still can't help but feel like at least some of this DuckDuckGo vs Google stuff is actually some type of marketing campaign considering how I came across some of the articles and videos I've seen on it. Seeing as you asked, I dug out some links from my browser history from the past month relating to DuckDuckGo: 6977bf3e235e I don't think I actually read most of these articles, but they are what I could find when I searched through the 1 month of browser history I have, but I will be missing any that URL didn't contain duck in it, and any that I visited longer than a month ago which are mostly the ones I actually read (I stopped reading them after a while because they all seemed like the same article to me).

I used duckduckgo for a while. Honestly, it doesn't give as good of results. Even if Google manipulates search results to them look good, it doesn't matter for a vast majority of your searches. It turns out people rarely Google things about Google. In most cases you don't want the organic search results. The organic search results contain a lot of garbage. In a vast majority of cases, Google is going to get you want you want quicker than duckduckgo. Duckduckgo's algorithm cannot compete with Google's.
