Not that I care but Svidler has to be the biggest anti Carlsen commentator online, he's even trying to find ways to draw, or losing variations for Carlsen, even though Carlsen posision is best. It is disgusting.

the future of chess is shorter time control.i won't say 30 mins game but at least first 50 moves for 90 minutes would be much better for fans and the sport side of the game.

+Marinho Santos when I saw that she is with Giri my sympathies for her were lost.Giri is a wooden robot.doesnt get more boring or awkward with giri.sometimes I feel sorry for chess people outside of the chess world.they dont seem to have any experience in life besides chess.no sense of humor no finesse no style.but i guess thats because the little money they are making compared to the effort they are putting to stay on a high level

as ben finegold would say : terrible games , both players go for mate and in between the play terrible moves
Friday Willow 2 months ago
and you will most of the times because back in those days chess masters only knew to attack and defense was so undeveloped

Fischer said that chess is played out (I think that was the term). Everything has been explored, and it requires not so much imagination as memory to play at the highest level. That' s a recipe for boring drawn games. Then again, maybe there's too much money at stake to take risks. I don't care for this commentary myself. Seems to me they are just killing time. I prefer to watch the games on Youtube when they're done. I love chess, though I'm only a duffer. To me it's a recreation -- not a profession, a way to get rich, or a way to feel superior to others. I like to gamble when I play, and see what happens if I do this or that. I enjoy the game as a game. What do you guys think?
Alex M 2 months ago
Someone explain why so many draws? Is this common for high level play with these long time limits
Dave Z 2 months ago
+Soy Wars: The Force is Shemale I don't think you can say should have won. The game is executing the right move. If you have a superior position and then make an incorrect move which causes a draw or loss then you have earned the result.
Soy Wars: The Force is Shemale 2 months ago
Alex M Yeah, at the highest levels, when players have very similar ratings, most games end in a draw. But this is a little misleading, because Carlsen should by all means have won the first game. He overlooked a clean win.

Why don't they just finish it to the end instead of keep offering draws?!
bassam jabbar 2 months ago
+Tristan Alexander True.
Tristan Alexander 2 months ago
+bassam jabbar Well it could but only if one or the other player blunders and after another 7+ hour game they both are liable for blunders so niether wanted to risk it so they agreed to a draw.
bassam jabbar 2 months ago
+Tristan Alexander I thought there might be any chance that either of them wins. Taking advantage of the positions of the pieces (one might be better than the other). It could lead to a win. Just saying
Tristan Alexander 2 months ago
Because they both know it would end in a draw so there's no point in going to the very end.

Chess must be reformed. At top level they have so much opening theories in their heads that they play the opening lines for 25 moves by heart and than swop to the endgame in a drawish position. boring, boring, boring!
Bobby Bobby 2 months ago
+Nate The reason is because it's really hard to reinvent a game that nobody wants to reinvent. Not all 960 positions are good, but there are at least 100 positions where the starting advantage is approximately equal to the starting position of the normal game. If you restrict the pool of starting positions to just those 100, then chess would be much more of a skill game, instead of what it now, mostly a memory game.
Nate 2 months ago
I feel like blitz is good bc it favors instinct over memory compared to classical but 960 is a stretch. There's a reason the pieces are where they are and have been there for centuries
Bobby Bobby 2 months ago
+Jack Daniels Your comment is traditionalism in a nutshell. You basically said that in serious matches, they should only play chess the same way it's been played for centuries. And that's fine, I'm not criticizing you for it, but you are the definition of an average chess fan. I believe that chess960 or blitz both require just as much chess ability as normal chess, if not more. I don't like that most people in the chess community refer to them as show games, as if to suggest they are not serious formats. It's part of why I have never been able to get super into the chess community.
Jack Daniels 2 months ago
Bobby Bobby in my opinion it is perfectly fine how they play it is the match with the highest stakes this year and I want them to play their best. For entertainment there are show matches or blitz imo.
Bobby Bobby 2 months ago
+Ed Chess players tend to be traditionalists. It's hard to get them to change on anything. So it's not surprising.

Its carlsen that have No domination hoping opponent making mistake. Its mean lack of preparation and deep calculation. Kasparov Will crushed this Joke blindfold

+Ig Os i believe my rating much higher than u, u Just a kid fan of carlsen? A World champion Just play for a draw? Simplification? Come on.
Ig Os 2 months ago
+Munafik Sekali as a chess fan you must be 1200 rated if you do not understand what is at stake here. This is not done for your entertainment and neither of these players plays with how upset you might be in mind. Please hammer this into your head before you spread more ignorance next time. Yes Carlsen is capable of much more but it would be imprudent given what is it stake. Why is this not a no-brainer?
Munafik Sekali 2 months ago
+Ig Os hoping for tie break? Thats all the strongest player on earth Can do? As a chess fan i upset and feel bored i dont expect he sac 2 Queens but at least dont trade Queen early and simplification
Lwazi Nkoe 2 months ago
+Мартин Атанасов first Kasparov was well out of his prime as well, secondly, Carlsen lost three times before that draw finishing the match at 3 1/2 - 1/2
Ig Os 2 months ago
Lol what an ignorant comment go back to watching WWE please. Carlsen is simply taking this to tiebreak where he will dominate in the rapids. Chess is not just pushing wood - it is psychology.
